I must get married, and I will, nineteen-year-old Evelyn decides. It is 1969. Evelyn is pregnant. Around her, the staid values of an older Ireland still rule. “Decently” married, she finds herself beset by doubts about her love for her husband Liam, and the temptations posed by other men. In interlinked stories, we follow Evelyn through her marriage, and the birth of her children, to the break-up of the hard-worked-at union – and into the beginnings of a new relationship. Poignant storytelling from a wonderful writer.

Reviews
“Honest and poetically written, these stories bring the reader to an Ireland questioning conservatism. But change hasn’t come soon enough for Evelyn. Engrossing and evocative. Daisy, Daisy is about the importance of love, in all its forms, and the power of motherhood. Another splendid and captivating book from this fine Irish writer. A great read.” ––Grace Wynne Jones
“Carmen Cullen writes with such delicate precision that the reader is seduced. The journey taken by her hero, Evelyn Connolly, is beset with the challenges of family, work, pregnancy, love and betrayal: familiar aspects of a woman’s life that are woven together by the writer’s skill and sympathy. You have known life, Evelyn tells herself at one point; by reading this novel, we have too.” ––Liz McManus
